Recent Projects
A modern family garden
The brief was to create an attractive garden for the family, combining sleek, contemporary materials with a loose, pretty planting style
A lovely place to relax in the evening
Showing the sleek hard landscaping
Relaxed planting will fill out to soften the paving
Lawn for sunbathing
The western red cedar trellis gives an effective screen above the short wall
Silver birch trees add height, structure and dappled shade as well as fabulous winter colour
Low maintenance lavender form a low hedge to divide the areas
Shady planting
A wide path leads to the bottom of the garden past a feature Acer
Creating a family garden from an overgrown site
The brief from the client was to remove all the existing planting and create a flat, family friendly garden, which could be used for football, growing vegetables, relaxing and entertaining whilst maintaining privacy from the roads behind.
The initial phase of the build (hard landscaping and autumn/winter interest planting) was finished at the end of October 2015. The remaining planting was finished by Easter 2016.
It is now looking established and colourful and continues to evolve each season
The new level lawn and low retaining wall make the garden seem much larger
Phormium, Cordyline and Cistus used to give a coastal feel to the planting
Woodland corner with Silver birch, cornus and Nandina
Increased privacy provided by contemporary hazel hurdle fencing
The colourful stems of Cornus 'Midwinter Fire' contrast well with the white trunk of Betula utilis
View from the terrace to the beach
Previously the small patio was in the shade so did not inspire the family to eat outside. Now they have a huge space for entertaining
A level lawn was created by building a low, curved lawn which creates a large level area for games and a lovely feature for interest in the garden
Amelanchier, Camellia and Daphne just planted
A Low-Maintenance Front Garden
The brief from the clients was to remove the old, tired plants around the perimeter of the drive and replace with colourful cottage style planting whilst increasing the turning circle for cars
The front garden 5 months after planting
The front garden BEFORE work began
Lavender, Thyme, Erigeron and sage mingle along the edges of the bed
The overgrown planting was removed and replaced with pockets of low maintenance sun-loving plants such as hebe, allium and erigeron
Erigeron, Allium and Hebe provide low maintenance colour throughout the year
Several overgrown conifers were removed and replaced with Roses, Hebe, Geranium and Phlox to create a more colourful welcome by the door
The existing planting was replaced with Alchemilla and Geranium planted through gravel to increase the turning circle for cars
The herbs under the cherry work well with the gravel
The original border was overgrown and didn't allow enough turning room for cars
The overgrown conifers were not providing an inspiring welcome to the house
After the weeds had been removed the large expanse in front of the Laurel hedge needed to be improved
Making the most of a sloping garden
The clients had a new extension and wanted to make the most of the area outside the room and maximise the views out across the fields
patio areas for dining and relaxing which would make the most of the slopes
Stepping down into the garden allows great views from inside
A modern family garden to make the most of the sloping site for entertaining
The garden had lots of sloping areas and banks with a small narrow seating area along the length of the house.
The clients wanted to increase the size of the terrace to allow for sitting in the sun and entertaining and to introduce a curved, organic shape with a simple, stylish water feature
A wildlife pond
The brief was to create a new pond with cascades between different levels to replace the old, overgrown pond
The pond was planted with attractive, deer resistant planting for all year round interest
Planting to attract the insects
Just after planting
The cascades from top and middle pool
